As telling kommersant.ru,

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will quit the post of the head of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) party, which she has headed since 2000, according to Western media, citing sources.

According to their data, at the meeting of the presidium of the party, Mrs. Merkel told her supporters that she would not participate in the new CDU head elections to be held in early December.

However, she intends to keep the post of Chancellor. At 13:00 local time, Ms. Merkel should hold a press conference, they write to the media.

It became known yesterday that the CDU in the parliamentary elections in the federal state of Hessen won only 27% of the vote, which is 11.3% less than in the last election. It was also reported that Angela Merkel's party bloc rating fell to an anti-record (the poll was conducted by Emnid sociologists for Bild am Sonntag).
